Matt Decker began his tattooing career in the fall of 1993. He apprenticed in Albuquerque, New Mexico at Rune Stone Tattoo under Ricky Fairweather. An Oakland resident since 1994, he opened Premium Tattoo with his wife in April of 2008, and now they live in Benicia with their two kids: Finn and Olive. When not tattooing Matt works as a custom portrait artist, known for his meticulously crafted, photo-real renderings derived from photographs.
Matt is a jack-of-all trades artist: He can do just about anything very well. Lately, he’s been doing a lot of great pieces composed of intricate line-work inspired by 20th century printmaking. He’ll take on just about any project, from that small diddy on your wrist to that back-piece you’ve been dreaming about.

Excellent choice for my first tattoo.
I was looking for someone who could do very precise line-art, and Matt Decker delivered the goods. He was very professional, and took the time to make sure that the positioning was exactly correct […] He pretty much gave me exactly what I was looking for. No hype, no bull, no attitude -- just extremely competent..
Line-work is seriously impeccable
His work really speaks for itself. He was able to tweak what I had in mind into something that I loved. This guy's line-work is seriously impeccable and he does it with the quickness […] Besides the tattoo itself he's a very down to earth dude. Does his thing and makes you feel comfortable throughout the whole process.
His shop is clean and he is the nicest guy
Matt is an amazing artist! When you walk into the shop he greets you with a smile and answers all of your questions. I have had a couple of pieces done elsewhere and I always got the feeling of pretentiousness from the other shops and artists. Not with Matt, he makes you feel very comfortable.
